Relaxing with Lanna Wisdom
Zira Spa
STORY
WELLNESS

The slow pace of life, the cool breeze drifting gently through the air, and décor imbued with the essence of ancient Lanna culture create a truly soothing and peaceful atmosphere for relaxation.
What sets northern Thai spas apart, however, is the rich heritage of traditional healing massage techniques passed down through generations. One such practice is “Tok Sen” — a unique Lanna folk tapping massage that uses a wooden hammer and a special wooden wedge (not sharp) to rhythmically tap along muscle lines and tendons. This method helps release muscle tension, improve blood circulation, and relieve aches and pains.
In addition to these time-honored techniques, new innovations in relaxation massage have also been developed. For example, the “Fon Leb Massage” or nail dance massage, offered by Zira Spa Chiang Mai, inspired by a traditional Lanna dance, employs a traditional handwoven bamboo finger stretcher—a delicate tool worn on the fingers to gently stretch and loosen muscles in the fingers, wrists, and arms, mimicking the graceful movements of the dance.
